As per the notification from the British Council, in response to the increasing test demands accumulated during Covid-19 restrictions, British Council China will start delivering the IELTS Speaking test via video call once IELTS test resumes. From July 2020, the Speaking part of the IELTS test at Xiamen University and Shenzhen SEG Personnel Training Centre will be delivered via a video call.

The Video-call Speaking test will retain the test security and trusted benefits of our human-centred test, and at the same time, allow more flexibility and higher availability of IELTS Speaking test with an examiner based elsewhere which makes IELTS more accessible to test takers.

Test takers will take the Video-call Speaking test at an official IELTS test centre with the same high standard of identity verification. Delivered via a video call by an IELTS Speaking examiner, the Video-call Speaking test will maintain the face-to-face feature of the In-person Speaking test, enabling real-life, real-time, two-way interaction.

The Video-call Speaking test will be exactly the same as the In-person Speaking test in terms of content, scoring, timing, level of difficulty, question format and security arrangements.
